Body/Object
This weekend I am starting work on the first piece i'm to do here. It will be shown on Friday, October 8 with other student works and guest artists. I still feel like i'm in a Tom Stoppard play , or a Fawlty Towers episode...it should be quite something to watch come together.
Working with the computer engineer i'll be using projected video that is delayed and layered during the live movement (triple/quadruple images of person resolving into herself), music ends, performer exits, slow fade into ending with a video still that captured 3 moments in the piece - specific gestures that when seen together have a new connotation - tell a story of some kind. Not sure what the gestures are yet. I was going to use a set (one chair in 2 positions can suggest a conversation about to happen...) but i'm not so interested in moving it around to achieve the effect. Seen too many chair dances! My main goal is to not end up with GUV (gratuitous use of video). Still thinking on it.
My original idea comes from the Mark Strand poem "Keeping Things Whole" . It's a favorite that has inspired me in the past and really seems to reflect what some of this technology is like to work with (being the difference in the field affecting other parts of the environment)
I was hoping to upload some pictures of the hallway here, just to contrast with the picturesque outdoors, but the firewall isn't letting me. Maybe later.
